As a serious ancient rome nuffy I was very excited to be going to Rome in 2019, I had spent a fair while planning the trip and we have a few months to wait, the countdown was on and it felt like it was never going to get here until all of a sudden the time was upon us.
I will throw in a few pics, there is a video at the bottom of the page.
We decided to stay in an appartment instead of a hotel, we wanted to be a little less tourist and be a little more comfortable, most hotel rooms oyu literally jsut get a room with a bed or two and a shower/toilet, with the appartment we had a bedroom, kitchen, lounge/dining room and a shower and toilet, it was small but it was comfortable.
The address is, Via Mecenate, 77, 00184 Roma RM, Italy. You can look that up on Google earth.

I really liked the location we were close to the Colosseum, the appartment had a nice sitting area on the roof which had a really good view of the Colosseum. Below is the scene from the rooftop at 6am.

Our first day was great, we visit the Colosseum and the Forum, the pic above is the Colosseum, I really enjoyed the visit here we got to have a good look around and I got to get my grubby hands on the Colosseum.
Haley and I sitting in the pic left is at the sight they cremated Julius Caesar.
Below is Haley with a pretty tasty desert.

The pics below of Haley and I are of the Hippodrome, there is very little left of it, it has literally been torn down and the stones used for other things, one of the cool things to do here is the VR experience, you can walk around certain spots with a VR headset and it shows you what the area you are staning in once looked like.

I ate a lot of pizza in Rome, this is funny because prior to arrival I was a little concerned with what I saw on many restaurant menu’s online, but the pizza was awesome, I probably ate pizza 6 of the 9 nights I was there.
We did go find a McDonalds so Haley could try Maccas in Rome, we also found a Burger King so we could continue our efforts of Maccas and Hungry Jacks/Buger King in every country we go to.
And yes look below, more pizza!
I did have a steak once and that was ordinary, they do not understand steak, it was like paper thin.

As a total Rome nuffy I loved it here, the funny part was is we walked most places and even walked for hours and no matter where we went or what direction we ended up I always knew the way back to the appartment, I said at the time I honestly felt like being in Rome that I was finally home.
Sounds odd that but it is true, I was able to navigate that I could even take alleyways and know where I was going, at one time I was pretty keen to go look at the Tiber river but the family was a little tired, I had them sit at a temple as I walked a couple of blocks through side streets to get to the river and then made my way back, it really is hard to explain but I knew where I was every moment of our time there, a couple of times we caught taxis as the distance we needed to travel was 20km, even in the taxi I knew where we were going, one time we asked the taxi to pull over as he seemed to be going the long way and we got out and I walked us without assistance to the place we were heading.
